Field Notes

The decisions behind Gensact.

We sell decision intelligence. It would be strange not to be legible about our own decisions. Here are a few we made building the product, and the thinking behind each.

None of these were obvious. Each one was a fork where the easy path and the honest path pointed in different directions - and the choice says more about how we think than any feature list could.

01

Import your data. Don’t wire us into your tools.

The tension

Every platform promises one-click integrations - connect your accounting, your ads, your bank, and watch it all sync. It demos beautifully.

Our call

We don’t build live pipes into systems we don’t own. You export what you already have; we take it once, map it, and it becomes real inside Gensact.

Why

A live connection to someone else’s system is where value quietly dies. Tokens expire, APIs change without warning, banks block automated logins - and one morning the number on your screen is silently three weeks stale and nobody notices. Anyone who has tried to keep a bank or ads integration alive knows the tax. We would rather ask you for a spreadsheet once and be right than promise a sync and drift. And once the work happens here, “real-time” stops being a sync at all - it is just the truth, because it was born in the system.

02

Show you the problem you came for. Not everything.

The tension

The easy build is a dashboard with every metric on it. It looks comprehensive, and comprehensive feels safe.

Our call

Your first screen is shaped by the one problem you walked in with - cash, hiring, growth - and nothing else gets to lead.

Why

Nobody buys software to admire forty charts. If collections is bleeding you, your website score is a footnote, not a headline. So we read the reason you came and build the report around it. Everything you can see should be something you actually came to fix - the rest can wait until it is your problem too.

03

Demo data that never pretends to be yours.

The tension

An empty product is uninviting, so seeded sample data helps people explore. But fake data that looks real is a lie waiting to happen.

Our call

The demo is shaped to your industry so it is believable, and labelled everywhere so it can never be mistaken for your business. The moment you bring your own numbers, it steps aside.

Why

A number you can’t trust is worse than no number. If you cannot tell at a glance whether you are looking at your reality or a sample, the whole product is quietly dishonest - and a tool you catch lying once, you never trust again. So we made the line between demo and real impossible to miss.

04

Run the business. Don’t just watch it.

The tension

The comfortable product is a read-only layer that reports on the tools you already use. It is easy to build and easy to ignore.

Our call

Gensact is where the work happens - the collections, the hiring, the pipeline - not a mirror bolted on top of it.

Why

A dashboard you glance at is a dashboard you forget. The software that changes how a business runs is the software the business is actually run in. That is also why we can skip the fragile syncs from note 01: when the work lives here, the intelligence is native, and the loop from sensing what is happening to deciding the move to acting on it closes without a single integration.

A pattern runs through all four: when the easy choice and the honest choice disagree, we take the honest one, and trust that a product you can trust is the only kind worth building. We publish these because the same standard should apply to how we talk as to how we build.

See how it decides on your business.

The thinking is only worth anything if the product delivers it. Point us at your business and see the difference on your own data.
